Part 1: Active Learning

Review Comments and Discussions

Fifth grade teacher Jorey Beamesderfer sent us emails:

I have been using your American history system this year and my students have loved it!

One of the most wonderful things that happened this year was when my class was creating towns based on the Spanish Ordinances. Even my least English proficient students were completely engaged. Not only engaged, but actually decoding the ordinances! One day, the newest immigrant looks at the map his group had created and said, “Mrs. Jorey! Where are the schools?”  We then took this to a whole class conversation about what societies value and how you can tell.  So, at least for that moment, he was able to connect two seemingly disparate concepts.
